Custom jewelry design: from the idea to the finished piece
In our jewelry store’s workshop on Masson Street, our jewelers repair, modify, and create jewelry every day. The workshop is the heart of the store: it’s where your project takes shape. You know who is working on your piece, and information flows easily between the front counter and the workshop, because we are a family business.
Every piece of jewelry is different, and our jewelers enjoy finding the method that suits it. That know-how is what makes custom work possible.
Your idea, your model, or your jewelry: where to start?
A custom jewelry project doesn’t always start with a sketch. You can come in with very little, or with a specific object to build on. Here are the three most common starting points.
Starting from an idea or photos
You’ve spotted a model or a shape you like. Show us your photos and tell us about the occasion. Together, we look at the best way to make it, then we explain how we’ll proceed.
Completing or adapting an existing piece
A piece of jewelry is missing an element, or its shape no longer suits you. We can make the part that completes it, change its dimensions, or transform it. The existing piece guides the work.
Wedding bands and matching rings
A wedding band sometimes needs to match an engagement ring that has already been chosen. We design a band that harmonizes with it, or one or more rings to go with it.
Your choice of materials and stones
The metal and the stone determine the look, durability, and price of your jewelry. We help you choose without pushing you toward one option over another.
Gold, silver, and pearls
We work with yellow, white, and rose gold in 10, 14, or 18 karat, as well as 925 sterling silver and pearls. The higher the karat, the purer the gold, and the softer and more expensive it is. Our jewelers advise you on the metal best suited to your piece and to how you’ll wear it.
Semi-precious stones: reused or supplied
Colored stones give a piece of jewelry its personality. Common choices include amethyst, garnet, topaz, citrine, peridot, aquamarine, tourmaline, opal, and turquoise. They pair well with yellow, white, or rose gold, and several of them are birthstones.
You have two options. You can reuse the stones from an old piece: we check their condition, then set them in your new piece. We can also supply the stones for your project.
Natural or lab-grown diamond
Whether natural or lab-grown, a diamond is a real diamond, but its origin and price differ. Our role is to help you tell them apart and understand what you’re buying. If you already have a diamond, we can appraise it and incorporate it into your new creation.
Price, timeline, and terms for custom jewelry
The price of a custom piece depends on four factors: the complexity of the design, the metal chosen, the stones, and the production time. We give you a clear quote after our meeting, before starting your project.
The timeline varies with each creation: from a few days to a few weeks. We do everything we can to deliver your piece as quickly as possible, and we give you a realistic date as soon as your project is defined.
You can use your own gold or stones in the creation. Together, we assess what can be reused.

FAQ: custom jewelry in Montreal
-
How do I have a custom ring made?
-
Come see us with an idea, photos, or an existing piece. We study your project with you, then suggest the best way to make it. Your ring is then modeled in wax, cast in metal, and hand-finished by our jewelers.
-
Can I melt down my old gold jewelry for a new ring?
-
It depends on your jewelry. Chains, bracelets, and rings often contain different alloys, and refining may sometimes be necessary. We assess your gold, then suggest the best solution: reuse the metal, or determine its trade-in value and apply it as a credit toward your creation.
-
Can I reuse the stones from an old piece of jewelry?
-
Yes. We examine the condition of your stones, then set them in your new creation. Semi-precious stones such as amethyst, garnet, or topaz work well in a new piece. We can also supply new stones if you prefer.
-
Natural or lab-grown diamond for a custom ring?
-
Both are real diamonds, with a different origin and price. We help you understand these differences so you can make an informed choice. We can also appraise a diamond you already own.
-
How much does custom jewelry cost?
-
It depends on the complexity, the metal, the stones, and the production time. We discuss your project before determining feasibility and cost.
-
How long does it take to make a custom piece?
-
Generally between 1 and 3 weeks, depending on the creation. Some pieces are ready in a few days; others take a little longer. We do everything we can to deliver your piece as quickly as possible, and we give you a realistic date as soon as your project is defined.
Can you create a wedding band that matches my engagement ring?
-
Yes. We design a band that harmonizes with your ring, or one or more matching rings.
-
Can you complete or adapt a piece I already own?
-
Yes. Our jewelers can make an element that completes your piece, change its dimensions, or transform it.
